Please note, this is not directed to any specific Opponauts, but it's been something in my mind lately because some of my friends suck at driving....
Cars are NOT built to be flogged every commute every day. Shit will break. My friend's new Mini needed tires 3 months into her ownership........so take it easy on your cars.

How do you go through a set of tires in a month?! Then again my Mom's 2012 Optima managed to go through a set in a year with only 10K miles. Just ended up getting a whole new car at that point. I blame the turbo.

150 hp and 4speed auto, Hoon is physically impossible. Now the Tribeca, there's a reason I get 12 mpg.

New plan on a semi-related note:
Step one: Name your new car Molly.
Step two: Occasionally flog the car.
You are now Flogging Molly.

But the 10 minutes it takes me to get to work is the most fun I have all day!

The hell is that ugly car in front of that, there?

You'll regret those words if you ever lose your car to an accident one day. You WILL regret not flogging it every chance you get. I can assure you of that, because it will be gone. Gone baby, gone.

Says you...
Yes stuff breaks, but "If it ain't broke, you didn't push it hard enough"
OBTW, I go thru 3 sets of rears and a set of fronts every year, but that's a lot of track time. That way I have no desire to hoon on city streets.

I dunno, I used to hoon my parents' old Citroën BX19 pretty hard, with all of 100hp and a four-speed automatic. Not necessarily going fast per se, but definitely making use of every bit the car had to offer. Quite a lot of fun, actually.

But the C5 is heavy and floaty and mushy.

Hah, nice one. The Jetta hasn't been officially named, I think I shall call it "Molly". I've been thinking on calling the Mazda "Snowflake".

I used to baby my 4Runner, for the most part. Then the head gaskets went. Since then, I redline it nearly every time I drive it. It has never ran better. Granted, redlining doesn't really do anything spectacular, other than making a lot of noise and moving it at an elderly rate of speed. Plus, it gets 12 mpg when I granny it or it gets 12 mpg when I hit the sound pedal. But for the most part what you said is completely true.

Every three months?? She isn't flogging hard enough!

I only drive hard when there is a great opportunity that shouldn't be left untaken. If I want to drive enthusiastically, I am even more aware if there are any people/animals/other cars on the road that may be dangerous. I don't abuse my car because I take too much care, but when given the beans it feels in its zone.

yea, but thats on the TRACK. you arent running to redline every morning on the way to the office are you?

At this point, I drive the tits off my 2k2. She's good for it and loves to scream. I know repairs will be necessary, but after redoing the suspension (billy struts, sport springs, thicker anti-sway bars) , new carb, and exhaust, she's begging for it. Though, basically every other car I drive is treated properly.
